Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge of lifespan growth and development and provides age-appropriate respiratory care based on each patient's individual needs.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team while maintaining the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies. What We Require: Education: Associate degree or certificate in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) accredited program required.
  • Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Virginia Board of Medicine required.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Must obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC within 12 months of employment. Other Minimum

  • Assesses patients and monitors the effectiveness of respiratory therapy interventions, recognizing and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition or adverse reactions.
  • Provides respiratory support and life support modalities safely and effectively to patients of all ages.
  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, treatments, procedures, and equipment to promote understanding and participation in care.
  • Documents patient assessments, treatments, responses, and other required information accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Performs cleaning, preventive maintenance, and operational verification of respiratory equipment.
  • Identifies equipment malfunctions and initiates appropriate corrective action.
  • Performs documentation, charging, filing, scheduling, and other operational responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and maintains clinical competency through continuing education and annual competency validation.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees and provides guidance to students, volunteers, contract staff, and support personnel as assigned.
  • Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
