Responsibilities
- Develop, own, and execute the company-wide EHS strategic plan - setting multi-year goals, KPIs, and program roadmaps aligned with business growth and risk tolerance.
- Advise the executive team and board on EHS risk, regulatory landscape changes, and program performance; present quarterly metrics and trend analysis.
- Build and lead a high-performing EHS team including EHS Managers, field specialists, and coordinators; drive hiring, development, and succession planning.
- Establish EHS as a strategic business differentiator - supporting business development, client retention, and proposal efforts with demonstrable safety performance.
- Own the EHS operating budget; allocate resources across projects, training, technology, and compliance programs.
- Maintain enterprise-wide compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations including OSHA (29 CFR 1910 & 1926), EPA, DOT, and client-specific requirements.
- Oversee the company’s OSHA recordkeeping program, regulatory reporting obligations, and agency interaction strategy.
- Lead response to regulatory inspections, citations, and enforcement actions; manage legal counsel relationships on EHS matters.
- Implement enterprise risk assessment frameworks to identify, prioritize, and mitigate EHS risks across field operations.
- Ensure robust management of change (MOC) processes for new service lines, geographies, equipment, and customer environments.
- Conduct and oversee site audits, program assessments, and compliance reviews across the field portfolio; track and close corrective actions.
- Oversee the job hazard analysis (JHA/JSA) program and ensure pre-task planning is consistently executed at the crew level.
- Direct the company’s serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention program with focused controls on life-critical hazards.
- Lead the organization’s incident management program - setting standards for investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action, and lesson-learned dissemination.
- Ensure all incidents receive thorough root cause analysis (RCA); personally lead investigations for serious events and high-potential near-misses.
- Report and analyze leading and lagging safety metrics (TRIR, DART, SIF exposure, near-miss frequency) to drive performance improvements.
- Define and enforce subcontractor EHS pre-qualification standards, onboarding requirements, and ongoing performance expectations.
- Establish a subcontractor EHS monitoring and escalation process; hold subcontractor leadership accountable for field safety performance.
- Collaborate with procurement and contracts teams to ensure EHS
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture through visible leadership, consistent communication, and recognition of safe behaviors at all levels.
- Oversee the design and delivery of EHS training programs - new hire onboarding, annual refreshers, leadership safety training, and role-specific certifications.
- Develop and execute internal EHS communications, safety campaigns, and engagement initiatives for field and office employees.
- Build relationships with industry associations, peer networks, and regulatory bodies to stay ahead of emerging EHS trends and requirements.
- Direct the company’s environmental compliance program including stormwater (SWPPP), air permits, hazardous waste, spill prevention (SPCC), and site remediation as applicable.
- Lead or oversee environmental permitting and reporting for project sites in coordination with project managers and regulatory agencies.
- Drive sustainability and ESG initiatives in partnership with executive leadership - including emissions tracking, waste reduction, and reporting.
- Proven track record of reducing incident rates, managing regulatory relationships, and building scalable EHS programs.
Requirements
- Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
- Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.
- Executive presence with the ability to influence at all organizational levels and clearly present complex EHS matters to senior leadership, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations with a track record of maintaining compliance and reducing organizational risk.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing teams across geographically dispersed operations, including succession planning and accountability.
- Experience managing subcontractor and third-party safety performance to drive consistent, organization-wide standards. Demonstrated
- experience leading incident investigations, SIF prevention, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Data-driven decision maker with the ability to analyze leading and lagging indicators to measure and improve safety performance.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, reporting, and ESG-aligned risk mitigation.
- Strong cross-functional collaborator with the ability to align operations, HR, legal, risk management, and executive leadership around EHS priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Deep knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, EPA regulations, DOT requirements, and multi-state compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing EHS teams across geographically dispersed operations.
- Experience in electrical, energy, utilities, or mechanical field service environments preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems).
- NFPA 70E Arc Flash qualification and
- experience with electrical safety work practices. •
- Experience with enterprise EHS software platforms (Intelex, Cority, Velocity EHS, or similar). •
- Must be able to wear and enforce required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toed boots, hearing protection).
- Ability to walk, climb, and stand during on-site activities.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing teams and programs in field service, construction, or industrial operations.
