- Employment Status: Full time Shift: Variable Hours (United States of America) Facility: 805 Randolph St - Radford Requisition Number: R158492 EMT-Basic - Radford Transport - FT (Open) How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare: The Emergency Medical Technician administers basic life support care and transport to patients in pre-hospital settings as authorized and directed by physician.
- Manages difficult customer situations and maintains confidentiality. #EMSHeroes All of our driving positions do require that you provide a copy of your current driving record and meet eligibility requirements. EMT-Basic rate starts at $20.10, with credit for experience.
- Administers medications and initiates treatments at the basic level.
- Maintains knowledge of basic computer skills and applicable software.
- Maintains basic transport medical knowledge and abilities.
- Maintains knowledge of state and federal laws, and follows agency protocols, Carilion Policies and Procedures regarding safety and patient care.
- Experience: N/A Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Virginia.
- AHA BLS - HCP required.
- HAZMAT Awareness and PHTLS or BTLS Basic required within one year of hire date. Other Minimum

- Performs a variety of skills related to acute and non-acute settings in ground transport.
- Responds to medical emergencies in a 911 setting and protects life and administers cardiac and trauma support when needed.
- Administers initial treatment at emergency scene, assesses patient response and makes adjustments as needed.
- Gathers and analyzes information and uses reason when dealing with emotional topics.
- Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed, or need for additional assistance.
- Administers emergency procedures such as extrication of patient, defibrillation, and other non-invasive treatments.
- Observes, records, and reports to physician or command center personnel, patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Utilizes excellent communication skills in dealing with staff, peers, patients, and family members in diverse situations.
- Keeps current on treatment techniques, protocol changes and application of new drugs, material, and equipment.
- Takes responsibility for own actions and those of support team members.
